Change in Policy... a.k.a. NOT Valedictorian

I found out last Wednesday that Dixie has changed there policy since the previous week when I was informed that I was graduating valedictorian. One student was chosen to give the speech from each of the Associates and Bachelors Valedictorian groups. Because there were so many valedictorians, Dixie has decided that ONLY those two students (who are speaking) are going to be honored with the title. I didn't take it to well, which is pathetic because it is not like they lowered my GPA and I didn't want to give the speech anyway. It was just really hard being told that I had earned the honor of Valedictorian and then being told.. oh, never mind, you're not good enough any more. Oh, well... I am surviving just fine in my non-valedictorian state. Either way I am excited to FINALLY be graduating next Friday at 6:00pm!!!!!

I HAVE A JOB!!!

I got a call yesterday after school from the Washington County School District Office. Hurricane Elementary offered me a position for next year as a 4th grade teacher! Hooray!!! I didn't have to interview or anything. I guess my current principal must have talked me up pretty well. It feels SO good to know I have a job. I am feeling really blessed right now.

Valedictorian

So... I got a call on Thursday! I was told that I am one of three valedictorians for the Dixie State College Class of '09. Crazy! I have to have an interview and present a speech to the Board on Friday, April 17th. They will then choose who will be the speaker at the graduation ceremonies. This is crazy. I have a fetish for good grades, but I never expected them to lead me to valedictorian!

Head Above Water... Barely

There are about a dozen things I should be doing instead of writing drivel (noun- childish, silly, or meaningless talk or thinking; nonsense; twaddle) on my blog, but my brain has turned off and I just can’t get myself to concentrate on planning a review unit on weather for this week. So here I sit, wasting my time (and yours) by writing complete nonsense. I really don’t have anything to write, it had just been a while since my last post. Let’s see… March…. Oh! I spent spring break in Mesquite. I had a free two night stay. Raylene went with me. We played with beads (more bands for our watches) and we went to the Valley of Fire State Park and did some hiking… I will have to post some of those pictures when I have the energy to move more than my fingers. We had a great time.

My birthday was in March… I tried to ignore it, but the family dinner was fun.

I also had complete control of the classroom in March. It has been an exahausting and educational experience. I have had to put up with some major verbal abuse from one of my students who has problems. (for example this was shouted across the room one day, “Does anyone have a gun so I can shoot Miss Porter?”) Some days have been rough, let me tell you. It was easier when her hatred and animosity were divided between two teachers instead of all aimed at me.

There have been some great moments too… like when one student asked what grade I was going to teach next year (making the assumption I would still be at Three Falls). When I told him I would teach whatever grade I was hired for, he told me that I should definitely teach 5th grade so he could be in my class next year. These moments get me through the tough ones.

I have three more weeks of student teaching and then I graduate. It has been a long, long, long time coming and it will be amazing to be done. Well, I am going to bed so I can get up at five, tomorrow morning and attack that review unit on weather…
